How to get there
Best way to fly into Val Thorens is through Geveva-airport and then taking a connecting bus to the resort. You can also come by Chambery- or Lyon-airport but afterwards you might have worse connections to the resort.
If you travel by train you should try to go to Moutiers-Brides Les Bains, a village at the bottom of the mountain. Here you can take a cheap bus (+-15€) which leaves from the same railway station and brings you to the center of the resort, 40km up the mountain. During the season those busses drive more frequently on Saturdays, comparing to the rest of the week.
If you want to travel by car to Val Thorens, remember that the busiest days on the roads around the Alps are always Saturdays, especially during the French holidays. If you prefer driving on calmer roads, you can always book from Sunday till Sunday, ski a full day on Saturday on less crowded slopes. The availability of apartments is smaller but possible.
